Cleaning & Packaging

We had a wild and crazy night at the Tarrant Area Food Bank! For the first time that I can remember, there were a few too many volunteers. The TCU Alumni group was there, along with another group, as well as this extra special group called Cowtown Vettes.

Once our group picture was taken and our check presented, we were the first group to go into the work area. Since many of us had worked there before, we thought we knew what to do, however we soon learned that we would be sorting food into groups along the wall. Butter in one area, dairy and cooler items in another area, etc. TAFB had some new folks organizing the work area so instructions were vague and sometimes non-existent, but they were trying. We tackled the job and got it done quickly. I’m sure the liquid creamers that we put in dairy, which in fact should have gone in the “cooler items” section will still be fine. By this time the two other groups had joined in and there were people everywhere.

We did learn that the TAFB sign up process for volunteers is very manual, so sometimes they do get too many volunteers there at one time. They are going to an on-line process next year so they can manage the number of volunteers. We’ll look forward to that improvement in 2014!

Many families will have food on their tables for the holidays due to the donations of food, money and time to the TAFB. We thank you for coming out last night and hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Twenty of us enjoyed a nice meal at Mexican Inn after working.

A big thank you to all our members and guests who showed up to contribute their time to this worthwhile effort.

THE END
