Now that spring has sprung, it’s time to get the cars out of hibernation. April-full, May-full, June-2 spots available, July-1 spots available, Aug.-need, Sept.-need, Oct.-need, Nov.-need, Dec.-need.

April 2025

Happy Spring Cowtown Vettes!

A big thank you to all who came out for our bowling social this month. It was a small group bowling, but everyone had a good time. Thanks also to our members that came and cheered and supported the bowlers on.

There’s no social planned for April as we have the 5th Annual Larry and Sylvia Hoaldridge Memoria Autocross on April 12th and 13th. At the end of the month Robert Geyer has a cruise planned and we’ll be stopping for lunch.

April is the anniversary of our club. This year the club is 51. Be sure to come to our membership meeting to help celebrate and enjoy some cake. Also, at the April meeting I will be passing some small surveys around to get some ideas on what everyone would like to do for socials the rest of the year.

Save the date for Drive your corvette to workday on Friday June 27th. We’ll be meeting for lunch to celebrate the first corvette produced.  The time and location will be announced as we get closer to the date.

I hope everyone has been enjoying the nice spring weather. Our hot summer days will be here before we know it.

Hope to see you in April.

LowDown Article - Historian

I have been the historian for Cowtown Vettes since 2014. When the historian position was created back in the day there were no computers, digital photos, social media, etc.  Club members met together each year or so and collectively put together a scrapbook of sorts. The bulk of these book are not archivable and are subject to deterioration. That being said they are still in decent condition and enjoyable to look at.  The last scrapbook was created in 2014 for the 40th anniversary and the plan it to create one for 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary.  Going forward we will rely on our very comprehensive digital archives for both our written and photographic histories.

In addition to scrapbooks, we have a fairly comprehensive collection of LowDowns from the inception of the club and trophies, etc. mostly from 2000 to the current year.

If you have not rec’d your 50th Anniversary Cowtown Vettes commemorative Deck of Playing Cards, please attend the next Membership Meeting and see me.  Each primary member / household receives one deck of cards.  I’ll bring a few decks on the next cruise as well.  If you’d like an extra set (or two), see me as well, we did purchase extra decks of cards- these are $5 per deck.

We will have the Events, Socials and such in the next Slideshow.   The slideshow will continue to include some Corvette Trivia along with various other Corvette happenings around the country. Brian (our webmaster) does post a lower-resolution version online, on the CTV Website. Please provide any submissions for the slideshow to me no later than Sunday evening of the Membership Meeting week.

If you have been working on or updating your Corvette with new items …or if you have taken a trip in your Corvette and have some photos to share with membership, please send those to me and I’ll include them in the monthly slideshow.  Cowtown’s Microsoft O365 account allows us to use OneDrive, which makes it much easier for you to provide high-resolution photos from events for the web and/or monthly slideshow. If you would like to share photos, please take them in high-resolution; if not, they can’t be used on the big screen since they would show grainy / blurry.  These are needed by noon, the Monday before the Membership Meeting. If you have questions, please contact me and I’ll provide you with more information and the OneDrive link to share your photos – basically use the highest resolution option you can set on your camera or smartphone.

When you receive a CTV-ALL eMail blast, we would request that you please only reply to the originator when you are replying to a CTV-ALL email. When you opt to reply, simply select Reply on the email, then remove the CTV-All entry and replace it with the email address of the originator. If you are sending CTV-ALL emails, please include your email address in the body of the email so you have that address handy.

If you change your email or home address, Corvette, or other info – please drop an email to CTV-Membership@groups.io.

If you are not receiving CTV-ALL emails, please get with me so we can either add you or figure out why you aren’t receiving them.

More information on email distribution lists and the acceptable use of them can be found on our website.

Facebook – if you are on Facebook and not a “friend” of Cowtown Vettes, members cannot include you in tags at events; these tags show your non-club member friends all the fun we are having. Who knows, maybe some of you are in the witness protection program and don’t want to be tagged J If you are posting, be sure to tag Cowtown Vettes so it appears on our Facebook news feed.

Cowtown Cruiser

Robert Geyer - Cruiser/Equipment Chair

Hello Fellow Cruisers,

It's April and we are well into Spring and that's cruising weather. We just completed our first cruise this year to THE CAFE in Graford. I hope everyone enjoyed the trip and breakfast.
My next trip will be to the George H. W. Bush library and museum in Bryan-College Station on April 26th.  Plan on this being an all-day cruise consisting of a 3-hour drive with a 30-minute rest stop, lunch at a local restaurant, tour of the library, and return home at your leisure. I will have more details latter in the month.

Spring is a great time to get your Corvette ready for some good photos. I have included an article below that I found in the NCM magazine. It gives you several hints on how to properly photograph your Corvette. Those include staging, lighting, background, camera positioning, etc. The article was very informative, and I hope you enjoy the read.

Also, now is the time to start planning and mapping your personal cruises to collect Cruiser Points for the 2025 Cruiser Points Program. It's not difficult and I am always ready to help if you need me. Our 1st Place winners for 2024 (Michael and Belinda Biggers) was their first attempt at the Cruiser Points program and they nailed it. Congratulations to them.

One final commit. I am still looking for a Co-Chair for the Cruiser Program. If you have an interest, please contact me and I'll show you the ropes. It is not difficult to plan and execute our Cruiser Programs. Remember you will be helping and promoting Cowtown Vettes as a friendly and exiting community with something for everyone.

Debbie Lindsey

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for your membership votes at the meeting last month for local charity support for 2025.

The two charities that received the most votes are:

The Fisher House and the Warm Place

The money we raise through our 50/50 drawings, not only at the monthly meetings, but also at the Cowtown Vettes Car Show in the fall, will be donated to these two organizations at the end of the year.

So please be generous when you participate in the drawings -

the money is donated to the charities we choose,

but your chances of winning half the money also increase!

Mark Your Calendars! We have been busy scheduling Charity activities for Cowtown Vettes members for the near future.  Here is what is coming up:

Don’t Forget to Feed Me!:  June membership meeting

Tarrant Area Food Bank: Thursday, June 26th, 1 - 4 pm

          Cook Children’s Group Visit: Friday, July 25th, 10:15 am - 12:15 pm

We will have sign-up forms for Tarrant Area Food Bank and Cook Children’s a couple of months before each event.

We look forward to coming together as a community to help improve the lives of others!

Debbie and Paula

1954 Vette - Slightly Modified
Mix Old School and New Tech = Something Special

Not only is the C1 ‘Vette absolutely beautiful,
it pushes some extreme performance thanks to a modern engine swap.

Under the hood of the little convertible is the mighty supercharged LS9, the V8 mill used in the C6 Corvette ZR1. Just like in the ZR1, there’s a window in the hood to show off the engine. It’s been tuned to produce 590-whp, which is a good amount but doesn’t sound crazy.

Steve McQueen - The King of Cool

Early in Steve's career while working as a stuntman and money was a little tight...Steve's favorite ride was his Big Block Vette.
Above: heading home after a tough stunt day...nothing to it!

Steve McQueen was a full blown character and a little bit of a bad boy.
His own style blew Hollywood away and his driving talents and
no fear quickly made him a box office hit.
His many friends that knew him repeatedly said "McQueen he's the real deal"

What happens when a top Hollywood Stuntman becomes a Top Box Office Draw...

You Get the all-time King of Cool

Name the 3 movies above: Hint the far right is my all-time favorite...
The Great Escape

Few movie stars embodied the suave nonchalance of the counterculture of the 1960s better than Steve McQueen, a top box office draw whose effortless charm earned him the nickname the “King of Cool.” With a rugged charm both on screen and off, McQueen’s understated style and influential fashion choices made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors.

Steve McQueen and Carol Shelby... Hangin Out and probably talking cars...

would have loved to of heard that conversation.

NCCC EVENTS

Now up to 134 members strong

Cowtown Vettes now has 134 members!

At the national Governors’ Meeting in St. Louis, it was decided that there will now be two ways to earn national recognition. Instead of one path, which included all competition events, there are now two. There will be a speed group, and a non-speed group, which will consist of car shows, funkhanas and ralleys. There will be equal awards for both groups.

They are still searching for ways to increase membership, and lower the budget. There is a possibility of a national dues increase, but nothing is on the table, yet. As I mentioned at the last Membership Meeting, if you wish to only receive Blue Bars digitally, please let me know.

As you know by now, our practice autocross was cancelled, due to a scheduling conflict with Azle High School. The first actual autocross event of the SW Region will be our Annual Larry & Sylvia Hoaldridge Memorial Event. Fourteen low-speed autocross events, April 12-13, at Tarrant County College.

In addition, flyers are now up for:

May 10-11, Texas A&M Central, Killeen, Longhorn, 14 low-speed autocrosses.

May 17-18, Fat Daddy’s, Mansfield, CTV, 13th Annual Spring Scramble.

May 31-June 1, McLane Stadium, Waco, Cen-Tex, 14 low-speed autocrosses

Save the wave!
